Two Easy Pie Crust Designs! + Cherry Pie Recipe

Two Easy Pie Crust Designs! + Cherry Pie Recipe

Oh hey friends! I still can’t believe I baked seven pies in two days. Probably my biggest accomplishment haha! Anyways, I wanted to share with you my super fun cherry pie creations! I love making the fun pie crusts and getting creative! Obviously I’ll also be including the recipe + all my steps!! Enjoy!

  • Pre-heat your oven to 425°

  • Grease your foil pan!

  • Lay your pie crust down and flatten the bottom of the crust.

  • Cut off the edges of your crust around the pan.

Pie Crust #1

  • I got these cutters from hobby lobby for $3! They are seriously amazing! Click HERE for the leaf cutters!

  • I cut out multiple sizes of leaves and set them aside. Leaving the outline in the crust

Pie lesson #1: Two cans of pie filling is WAY TOO MUCH! Your pies will explode.

  • Fill your dish with cherry pie filling. Since 2 cans is too much, I recommend 1 full can and half of another can.

  • Place your pie crust on top of the filling and cut the edges.

  • Take this white wiggly spatula thing and use water to seal the edges. Some people do an egg wash but I used water for the cherry pies.

Pie Crust #2

  • Repeat all of the beginning steps

  • Cut small strips of pie crust, I used a pizza cutter to make it easier on me.

IMG_0816.JPG
  • Twist your strips and lay them on top of your filling.

  • Try to stick the ends together. It’s a lot harder when they covered in cherry goo

  • I used some of the left over leaves I cut out and added them to the edges

  • Bake the pies for 20 minutes at 425°

  • Take them out and cover your edges with a shield or aluminum foil to keep your edges from burning!

  • Reduce your heat to 350° and bake for 50 minutes.

When I first did this, my recipe said to continue to bake the pies at 425°. My cherry pies exploded and looked like a hot mess. I experimented with my apple pie and got better results!

When you reduce your heat + don’t fill the pies as much, there’s way better results! Learn from my mistakes!

  • After the pies cooled I was able to scrape off some of the cherry goo. They weren’t perfect but I was happy with them!
